Album review: Icarus Falls

By Stephanie Lingenfelter

Former One Direction member, Zayn Malik, released his second album, “Icarus Falls,” on Dec. 14 and compared to “Mind of Mine,” it missed the mark. Everything sounded too electronic and edited, which was disappointing because I know Zayn has a beautiful voice and was always my favorite in 1D.

The only song I enjoyed enough to add to my favorites on Spotify was “Good Years.” He sings about his years as a part of 1D and the mistakes he made, saying, “I pray to God I didn’t waste all my good years.” It is vulnerable and transparent and revealed the struggles he faced when he first became famous, including drugs, alcohol and fighting with other members.

People who like more repetitive, contemporary R&B would probably enjoy this album more. Nevertheless, if he were to release another album, I’d still give it a shot.
